The first photograph in my sequence shows a moment that was captured during a soccer match up. Arthur Rickerby did many sports shots for Life magazine particularly action shots during sporting events. The white jerseys that the players are wearing in the frame are England National shirts which indicates that the photographer was capturing an important moment during a World Cup game. Viewers of this image are invited into the victory that these players are celebrating and at the time this picture was shown it could have represented pride or a sense of victory for supporters of the England team, or it could have represented anger at the team that was defeated. It is a very inviting image for the audience of this image because everyone has had some sort of triumph in their lives, the players jumping on one another in joy is representative of shared hard-work to get to the World Cup and the player standing to the side with his arms up could be looked at as giving praise or thanks.
These three pictures are the series of photos that I have chosen for my first paper, the photographs were taken by Arthur Rickerby.
